Starkweather Arts Center Volunteer Opportunities
Board Opportunities
The Starkweather Arts Center looks for individuals with skills in: fundraising, financial, restoration, public relations, legal, policy-making, artistic or operational backgrounds. Specific responsibilities include attending one board meeting every four to six weeks, 75% participation in exhibits and special events, participation on one committee, promoting membership, soliciting sponsors/donations and being a member. There is a three year board commitment.
Fundraising
The Starkweather Arts Center seeks members who are interested in helping to raise funds for the operation of the Starkweather Arts Center as well as the various exhibits, special events, and restoration needs. This includes working on our annual Holiday Art Extravaganza fundraiser. Other forms of fundraising vary; they may include assisting with grants, holding raffles, and soliciting sponsorships.
Sales & Gift Gallery Volunteer
The Starkweather Arts Center seeks volunteers to help in the sales and gift gallery. Responsibilities include greeting patrons, making sales, light maintenance, assisting with office work, and including help with inventory when needed. This is a good opportunity for local teens who have an interest in the arts, to see first hand, what is involved in running an art gallery. Saturday hours are available for volunteers.
Restoration Committee
This committee works to complete the restoration and renovation process of the Starkweather building. Responsibilities include working with block grants, obtaining contractors, and overseeing work as well as overseeing all repairs and maintenance of the building. This committee reports directly to the board of directors.
Exhibit Committee
The Starkweather Arts Center seeks members interested in working with the individual exhibits on display at the art center. Responsibilities include scheduling and planning exhibits, jurying artwork for exhibits, receiving artwork, installing artwork and pick-up of art work. Other tasks may involve chairing a specific exhibit, postcard and flyer design, publicity, etc. If you would like to be a part of each new art center showing, this committee is perfect for you.
Reception Committee
The Starkweather Arts Center seeks members to help host artist’s receptions. Responsibilities include coordinating food and refreshments, set-up and clean-up. If you enjoy meeting new people, socializing and hosting, this committee is your opportunity to apply these skills. There are approximately nine annual receptions.
